The Journey of Lidiya Varvarenko
Born in 1952 in Skadovsk (Ukrainian SSR), she received a higher musical education as a pianist and accompanist and worked in her profession at a music school in Latvia.
In 1991, she moved to Belgium. In Antwerp, she performed as part of a trio and gave private piano lessons. While continuing her musical career, Lidiya developed a strong interest in visual art and studied fine arts for five years at the Academy of Fine Arts (Academie voor Beeldende Kunst) in Mortsel, where she was taught by David Ooms.

Music Reflected in Painting
Her musical education is directly reflected in her painting. Each work is conceived as a captured moment of performance, with careful attention to the performer’s pose, hand movement, facial expression, and color composition. Her paintings convey a sense of presence at a live concert, translating sound, rhythm, and emotional intensity into visual form.
Her creative process is based on the analysis of movement and emotion. She selects the most expressive moments and unites them into a cohesive and dynamic composition, resulting in works that feel structured, vibrant, and emotionally engaging.

In addition to the theme of musical performers, her work also explores water, flowers, urban scenes, and landscapes. Even within these subjects, a strong sense of rhythm and harmony remains evident, shaped by her musical background.
